Kuwait to tender multibillion-dollar road schemes

Kuwait has awarded $15.7bn of road projects over the past 10 years

Kuwait’s Public Works Ministry (MPW) has said it plans to tender 24 road projects worth an estimated KD4bn ($13.2bn) “over the coming years”, according to a report by Kuwait News Agency.

The ministry, however, did not provide specific details about these planned road projects.

According to regional projects tracker MEED Projects, Kuwait has awarded an estimated $15.7bn-worth of road projects over the past 10 years, with 2013 and 2016 having seen the highest value of awards.

However, MEED reported earlier this year that actual construction work on some of the contracts awarded in 2016 has been delayed.

There are also more than $10.1bn-worth of road projects that are currently under design and procurement.

The largest road contracts that are expected to be awarded soon include the infrastructure and road works at South Al-Mutlaa City as well as regional roads in the southern and northern regions of the country.
