Upgrade of pressure protection system planned for Mina al-Ahmadi refinery

State refiner Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) has issued a tender for the upgrade of its gas pressure protection system at the Mina al-Ahmadi refinery.

KNPC has set a 13 July deadline for the submission of bids, with more than 30 engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firms prequalified for the deal.

The upgrade project will implement recommendations made by the US’ KBR, which include the engineering, supply and installation of an anti-surge control system, a burner management system, a flame scanner system, and other associated civil, mechanical and electrical works.

The whole scheme is expected to take 33 months to complete.

KNPC signed more than $12bn-worth of EPC contracts with three international consortiums for the long-awaited Clean Fuels Project (CFP), which covers the upgrade of three existing refineries in the country, including the Mina al-Ahmadi facility.
