29 November 2016

Project follows financial success of olefins I and II complexes

Kuwait’s Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) is set to award front end engineering and design (feed) contract on its third mix-feed cracker by February 2017, according a senior source at the company.

The plant will be integrated to the $14bn Al Zour Refinery Project and is set to produce a million tonnes a year (t/y)of polyethylene and 400,000 to 600,000 t/y of polypropylene.

The development of the plant was revived in 2015 after years of delay due to feedstock issues.

The project will utilise a mixed feed of gas and liquids.

Dow Chemical had partnered with PIC for Olefins 1 and Olefins 2, as part of the Equate joint venture.
