Libya approaches contractors for Al-Jurf oil field

11 August 2009
Libya's state-run energy company Mabruk Oil Operations is asking companies to express their interest in an engineering and procurement deal covering the second-phase development of its Al-Jurf oil field, 160 kilometres northwest of Tripoli.

Mabruk Oil operates the Mabruk and Al-Jurf fields on behalf of a joint venture between the state-run National Oil Corporation and French oil major Total.

The prequalification announcement covers the design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, transport and installation of a floating, production, storage and offloading unit, along with new living quarters and a bridge.

Contractors must submit interest by 10 September.

In May, Total had to renegotiate its production-sharing agreement for the Al-Jurf field after the Libyan government cut its stake in the field to 30 per cent from 50 per cent.

The field produces about 45,000 barrels a day of oil.
