Report citing oil official says restart of Waha field has further boosted output

Libya’s oil production has climbed to 580,000 barrels a day (b/d) following the restart of the Waha oil field. The North African country is rapidly ramping up output after reopening its ports.

News agency Reuters cited a senior Libyan oil official as saying the Waha field is producing 50,000 b/d, which is being transported to the Ras Lanuf port rather than Sidra due to a lack of storage capacity.

State-owned National Oil Corporation said on 17 October that the country’s oil production had reached 551,000 b/d.

Production has risen from 260,000 b/d in August after a deal was reached with military commander Khalifa Haftar, whose forces have taken control of oil export terminals on the Mediterranean coast.

Output was boosted significantly by rising production from Arabian Gulf Oil Company, which operates the Sarir field.
