ASGC is working on new retail space on Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard

The local ASGC has started work on an expansion to Dubai Mall following the issuance of initial permits in August this year.

The project involves the construction of additional retail space as part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard and will link to the mall’s Fountain Views expansion.

To ensure the highest levels of efficiency in the construction process, ASGC has applied state-of-the-art technology solutions. These include the deployment of sophisticated 3D-laser scanning to allocated utilities throughout the development, as well as using building information modelling (BIM) to coordinate the construction activities.

The Dubai Mall is the largest mall in the world by total area with 1.124 million square metres. It welcomes over 80 million visitors annually.

Emaar is tendering construction work for an even larger mall at the nearby Dubai Creek Harbour development. It has invited three contracting groups to bid by 17 December for the contract that is estimated to be worth AED15-18bn ($4bn-$5bn).

The total built-up area of the Dubai Creek Harbour mall is expected to be about 3 million square metres, with 1.7 million sq m of retail, 550,000 sq m of residential, 180,000 of commercial, a 175,000-sq-m basement, and a 40,000-sq-m hotel. Emaar’s Dubai Mall, which is the world’s largest shopping centre by total area, has a total area of 1.124 million sq m.
