

The local Galfar Engineering & Contracting Company has been awarded a $50.6m subcontract on the Duqm Refinery project in Oman.
The subcontract awarded by the joint venture of UK-based Petrofac and South Korea's Samsung Engineering covers building works packages 1 and 3 for the main engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package 2 for the utilities and offsites.
The completion period for Galfar’s works is 23 months.
The Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company (DRPIC) awarded the three main engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) packages in February.
EPC Package 1 was assigned to a joint venture of Tecnidas Reunidas (Spain) and Daewoo Engineering & Construction (South Korea) for the construction of process units. The Petrofac/ Samsung Engineering joint venture won the second package, covering utilities and offsites, while the third parcel went to a joint venture between Saipem (Italy) and CB&I (The Netherlands).
The overall project will take 47 months to complete in an area of 8 square kilometres. A harbour, dry dock, roads and utilities are already under construction.
