The Ras Abu Aboud Stadium will be built near Hamad International Airport

The local HBK Contracting Company (HBK) has been awarded the main works contract for Ras Abu Aboud Stadium.

The 40,000-seat venue will be built using modular building blocks, making it the first fully demountable FIFA World Cup stadium, says the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy. It will be entirely dismantled and repurposed after the 2022 World Cup. Parts will be used in other sporting or non-sporting projects.

Construction work is scheduled for completion in 2020.

It is located on a 450,000 square metre waterfront site close to Hamad International Airport.

It will be used to host matches up to the quarter-finals in 2022.

Time Qatar, the local affiliate of US-based Turner Construction, is the project manager.

Contractors are working on several other stadium projects for the World Cup. The largest is the Lusail Stadium that was awarded to a joint venture of the local HBK Contracting and China Railway Construction Corporation in 2016.
