The local Al-Maha Petroleum Products Marketing Company has been awarded a contract to supply the Rural Areas Electricity Company’s (Raeco’s) power stations in Oman.

Al-Maha will supply the fuel to Raeco’s plants for a period of two years.

Raeco provides power for areas not part of the Main Interconnected System (MIS) and Salalah grid, which includes a 67MW plant providing power to the town of Duqm and surrounding Wusta governorate in the sultanate.  Raeco plans to have installed an additional 80MW in the Duqm area by 2017.

Raeco also provides power for the Musandam governorate in the northern-most region of the sultanate. The utility’s power stations are mainly fuelled by diesel.
