Local joint venture wins Jewel of the Creek deal

Contract involves work on package 8 of Dubai development

A local joint venture of Habtoor Leighton Specon (HLS) and Drake & Scull Engineering (DSE) has been awarded a AED395m ($107m) contract for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works on package 8 of the Jewel of the Creek development in Dubai.

HLS was nominated by the project client, Dubai International Real Estate (DIRE), and agreed with DSE to execute the works in a joint venture.

In May 2014, the local/Australian Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) was awarded the AED1.45bn ($395m) contract for package 8 of the Jewel of the Creek development in Dubai. The work involves constructing five hospitality buildings including a five-star hotel, four serviced apartment buildings, a large ballroom, a marina and landscaping works. The total above-ground built-up area is about 160,000 square metres.

HLG also won the estimated AED400m ($109m) substructurecontract in July 2011. The work involves the construction of a four-level basement for the development.

The piling works were completed by the local APCC. Germany’s Kling Consult is the consultant for the architectural design, structural engineering, landscape design and quantity surveying.
