Locals win Oman field work

18 March 2008

The local Gulf Petrochemical Services & Trading (GPS) has won a RO23.5m ($61m) contract for the third phase development of the Marmul field in the south of the sultanate.

GPS beat competition from three other local contractors to win the work.

The project aims to provide additional surface facilities at the main Marmul production station to increase water handling capacity from 25,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d) to 55,000 cm/d to accommodate improved reservoir recovery techniques (MEED 6:3:08).

The scheme also covers an expansion to the Thuleilat gathering centre, with the aim of doubling water handling capacity to 60,000 cm/d, water injection capacity to 30,000 cm/d and oil export capacity to 15,000 cm/d.

The scope of works includes the installation of water tanks, bulk separators, water booster and injection pumps, an automation and control system, a water treatment unit and associated infrastructure. Most of the main process units will be procured by the client, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).
