French consultancy Arep has submitted the lowest bid for the contract to draft the guideline, strategy and policies for all transit-oriented development (TOD) projects across Dubai.
According to sources familiar with the deal, Dubai Municipality, the project client, could award the contract before the end of October.
Other firms that are understood to have submitted bids for the contract include US-based Aecom and Lebanon’s Dar al-Handasah.
The project aims “to complete a corridor-wide strategy to maximise the potential for TOD throughout Dubai Metro corridors and station areas”.
In addition, it aims to capture “essential elements of mixed-use development, non-motorised transport and pedestrian priority” and encourage a“walk-to-work culture”, in line with achieving sustainability and liveability in the emirate.
Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has delayed the awarding of the main contract for Dubai Union Oasis, the emirate’s first TOD scheme.
Local firm ASGC, the selected developer, is understood to be proposing some minor revisions, including potentially removing the hotel component from the original plan.
Union Oasis is to be constructed on the land above the underground stations where Dubai Metro’s Red and Green lines meet. It is part of a wider plan to regenerate the Deira area, which lies at the heart of old Dubai, as well as to encourage more people to use public transport.
