Luxury underwater hotel to be built in Dubai

13 August 2003
A $500 million project was launched on 12 August to build an underwater hotel in Dubai. The 107,700 square-metre Hydropolis hotel development is the brainchild of German investor, Joachim Hauser, the project's architect, inventor and designer.

The Dubai Development & Investment Authority (DDIA) is supporting the development, 'support without which this project would not have come about,' said Hauser.

'This is part of our ongoing effort to promote Dubai as a perfect hub to attract investments in projects spread across all sectors,' said Salem bin Dasmal, DDIA deputy director general.

The hotel is due to be finished in late 2006. The underwater hotel will be overlooked by the 321-metre Burj al-Arab, the world's tallest hotel.
