Swiss firm to provide power substation at $10.6bn aluminium complex in Eastern Province

The Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) has awarded Switzerland’s ABB a contract to provide a substation for its $10.6bn aluminium complex in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.

ABB will supply a 380kV outdoor gas-insulated switchgear substation from the Ras al-Khair power plant. This will in turn feed Maaden’s planned aluminium smelter with power. The contract is worth $24m.

The Ras al-Khair aluminium complex is a joint venture between Maaden and the US’ Alcoa.
