The two-year contract calls for the construction of 43-kilometres of four-lane dual carriageway from Al-Shahanaya to Zekreet, with five grade-separated interchanges and camel underpasses. About five groups of bidders were shortlisted for the contract. The new highway will replace the existing singled-lane Dukhan highway. The design consultant on the Dukhan highway upgrade is the UK’s Atkins.

The local Darwish Engineeringwas awarded in May a QR 207 million ($57 million) contract for the first package on the North road scheme. On the Doha expressway scheme, the client has decided to merge two packages already tendered and has issued a new request for bids.
