Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has awarded a contract to a consortium led by Japan’s Marubeni Corporation to develop a 100MW photovoltaic (PV) solar plant at Amin in the southern region of the sultanate.
MEED reported in August that the client had completed technical and commercial clarifications with five bidders after receiving bids from eight groups in July. After completing the bid review and evaluation, PDO awarded the contract to the Marubeni consortium, which also contains local firms Oman Gas Company, Bahwan Renewable Energy Company and Modern Channels Services.
The solar plant is PDO’s first independent power producer (IPP) project. The oil company will be the sole offtaker and will buy all of the electricity produced by the solar farm under a power purchase agreement (PPA) of a period of 23 years.
The contract will involve the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the solar plant for the duration of the PPA.
