US group to install jackets and observation platforms on offshore fields for Saudi Aramco
US-based McDermott has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by Saudi Aramco to install jackets and platforms at offshore assets.
The deal is part of the Long-Term Agreement (LTA) signed between Aramco and five engineering companies for ongoing work on its onshore oil and gas fields.
As the third fast-track jacket contract from Saudi Aramco in the last 18 months, this award is a testament to McDermotts successful performance on previous fast-track projects for Saudi Aramco, said Linh Austin, McDermott vice president for the Middle East and Caspian regions.
Under the new contract, McDermott will install four jackets and three gas observation platforms with a total weight of 11,595 tonnes.
McDermott was awarded a contract in 2015 to install 12 jackets, which has now been completed. It is also executing a contract to install nine jackets that is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2017.
At the end of 2016, Indias Larsen & Toubro and Singapores Emas were awarded two contract under the LTA to install wellhead decks at the Safaniya field and upgrade 17 platforms at various fields.
The LTA deal was initially signed with four international EPC contractors including the US Dynamic Industries, a joint venture of Indias Larsen & Toubro, and Singapores Emas, McDermott and Italys Saipem. UAE-based National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) became the fifth LTA contractor on 13 October 2016.
The LTA gives the contractors exclusive rights to bid for several oil and gas producing platforms, tie-in platforms, pipelines, power cables and related facilities under Aramcos masterplan for its offshore fields.
Aramco plans to spend $334bn over the next decade in the kingdom to improve its oil and gas infrastructure.
