More hydrocarbons found in Area 47 block near Tunisian border
Indonesian energy company Medco Energi has discovered more oil with its O2 well, located in Libyas Area 47 block, near the Tunisian border.
Initial tests demonstrated a well flow rate of 3,300 barrels a day (b/d) for oil and 140,000 cubic feet a day (cf/d) of gas through a 48/64-inch choke in the Top Lower Akakus formation, according to a statement the company released on 29 September.
The Ghadames Basin in Area 47 has seen a 90 per cent exploration success rate, with 18 out of 20 wells in the structure discovering oil or gas.
The latest announcement comes after Medco Energi said it is going to increase investment in Tunisia earlier this month.
Libyas oil sector has seen significant disruption over recent months due to ongoing fighting and protests.
