The Middle East and North Africa (Mena) remained the best-performing region in the world during June, according to GlobalData’s Construction Project Momentum Index (CPMI).
The Mena region recorded a score of 1.07 in June, representing a 2% increase from the previous month. The region has consistently outperformed the rest of the world this year.
“The Mena region is experiencing a dynamic construction landscape with varying momentum across different stages and countries. In June 2024, the CPMI scores of Iran rose significantly to 0.83 in June. Oman, Qatar, and Egypt recorded consistent improvement, with the Egypt CPMI rising to 1.17. Saudi Arabia and the UAE maintained strong scores above 1.00, while Algeria and Kuwait registered slight declines,” the report said.
Sub-Saharan Africa followed the Mena region with a substantial 20% increase to a score of 0.94, and North America registered a notable improvement, rising by 16% to 0.82. Western Europe and Eastern Europe also recorded improvements, with scores of 0.80 (7% increase) and 0.77 (32% increase), respectively.
In contrast, North-East Asia recorded a sharp decline, dropping 30% to a score of 0.56. China and South Asia also recorded decreases, with scores falling to 0.75 and 0.76 respectively. Australasia's score decreased by 23% to 0.69.
The South East Asia CPMI declined marginally in June 2024, falling by 2% to a score of 0.60. Despite low scores in previous months, the Latin American CPMI rose by 69% to 0.45 in June 2024.
Globally, the CPMI demonstrated continued growth, rising to a score of 0.79 in June, up from 0.77 in May.
GlobalData’s CPMI provides an assessment of the health of the construction project pipeline at all stages of development from announcement through to completion.
The CPMI reflects the pace of change in projects as they progress through stages before the start of construction as well as charting the course of progress for projects in the execution phase.
