

Regional railway plans gather speed
The largest countries in the Middle East and North Africa region are leading the way when it comes to executing rail projects
There are $53bn of rail projects at the execution stage across the Middle East and North Africa, according to regional projects tracker MEED Projects.
Whereas urban metro schemes have dominated the roster of ongoing work in the region in the past, the most active markets for work under way today are the region’s larger countries by population and land area.
Egypt is the most active with $25bn of rail projects at the execution stage.
The largest projects in the country are the three phases of the National Authority for Tunnels’ high-speed rail programme, each valued at about $4.5bn. Read more
