Work on enabling packages for Dubai theme parks infrastructure has been completed

Local developer Meraas is tendering infrastructure work for its theme park project in Dubai.

Now known as Dubai Parks, the development comprises: Dubai Adventure Studios, a water and marine life park, a Bollywood park, a children’s theme park and a night safari park. On launch in 2012, the first component of the development of this destination was expected to be completed by 2014.

The local Khansaheb Civil Engineering has completed site preparation and early works. South Korea’s Samsung C&T is acting as the client representative and programme manager on behalf of Meraas.

Meraas recently selected South Africa’s Mirage Mille as the programme manager for its AED6bn ($1.6bn) Bluewaters island development off Dubai’s coast.

The consultant will manage the entire Bluewaters island development, which is located next to Jumeirah Beach Residences (JBR). The scheme includes the AED1bn Dubai Eye, which will be the world’s largest Ferris wheel. Other components of the project involve building retail, residential, hospitality and entertainment zones.

South Korea’s Hyundai Contracting and the Netherlands-based Starneth Engineering have been appointed as the design-and-build (DAB) contractors for the 210-metre-tall Ferris wheel. Mace is the project manager.

For access to the island, the emirate’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA)  has invited companies to bid for a contract to upgrade an interchange in the Dubai Marina area on Sheikh Zayed Road to provide access to the new Bluewaters development.
