Biography Mohamed al-Mady has been the chief executive of Sabic since July 1998. Al-Mady joined the company in 1976 and worked his way through the ranks.
He has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree, also in chemical engineering, from the University of Wyoming, both in the US.
As the chief executive of Sabic, Al-Mady is responsible for the PET-producing affiliate Arabian Industrial Fibers Company (Ibn Rushd), based at Yanbu on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia.
In February, Al-Mady announced that Ibn Rushd planned to double capacity from 350,000 tonnes a year (t/y) to 700,000 t/y. Bids are now in for two major projects at the site.
Al-Mady is also chairman of the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association and a member of the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum.
