Five international groups have been invited to bid by 2 February for the transmission and distribution package on the Aluminium Bahrain (Alba)expansion project. The package will involve the supply and installation of equipment ranging from 11 kV to 220 kV to connect the power island to Alba's fifth potline.
The prospective bidders for the package are Austria's VA Tech, France's Alstom T&D, Germany's Siemens, Europe's ABBand a Japanese team of Toshiba Corporationwith Mitsubishi Electric Corporation(MEED 15:11:02).
For the power island package, two contractors have been shortlisted for clarification meetings with Alba in January. They are France's Alstom Power and South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company.
Four companies priced the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, which calls for the installation of at least 650 MW to the smelter's existing generating capacity.
