Thirteen companies are prequalified to submit bids by 2 March for a contract to supply and install three 33/11-kV substations at Doha, Sulaibikhat and Mina Abdulla. The estimated KD 6 million ($20 million) contract is the first of four tenders due to be released by the Ministry of Electricity & Water over three months.

The other three tenders call for the construction of a total of six substations at various locations in Kuwait.

The first, worth an estimated KD 7.5 million ($25 million), is due to be issued by early March and will cover the installation of three 132/11-kV substations at Jahra, Hawally and Khalidiya.

The second tender, estimated to be worth KD 5 million ($17 million), will be issued by early April. It will call for the installation of two 132/11-kV substations at Fahad al-Ahmed C and D, near Hadiya.

Finally, a tender is expected to be issued by late April for a contract to install a 300-kV substation at Jahra. The contract is worth KD 10 million-12 million ($33 million-40 million). All the proposed facilities will take 16-18 months to be installed.
