More T&D work beckons

20 October 2003
The Ministry of Electricity & Water (MEW) is due to issue tenders by December for two separate major transmission and distribution (T&D) contracts.

Estimated to be worth a total of KD 40 million ($133 million), the contracts will call for the supply and installation of 300/132/11-kV substations at Siddiqui West and Town X.

MEW is understood to have put on hold the award of a contract to supply and install a 300/132/11-kV substation at Jahra X, as prices submitted in mid-August came in above budget. Germany's Siemenssubmitted a low bid of KD 27.2 million ($90 million) for the 14-month contract (MEED 29:8:03).

More transmission and distribution (T&D) work is planned. Tenders are due to be issued by March for contracts to supply and install 17 132/11-kV and 10 33/11-kV substations at various locations in Kuwait.
