Moscow offers to build nuclear reactor in Jordan

05 March 2012

The Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) has said Russia's state-owned Atomstroy Export has submitted a proposal to build four Generation III nuclear reactors, Jordan Times has reported. "Russia came forward with a proposal to construct four reactors similar to their project in Turkey — which is something we will consider closely further down the line," JAEC chairman Khaled Toukan told the daily. The projected plants would add 4,000 megawatts (MW) to the national grid, more than double Jordan's current electricity generation capacity, and transform the kingdom from energy importer to an electricity exporter.
