Biography: Naguib Sawiris is CEO and chairman of the board of Orascom Telecom, an Egypt-based telecoms operator. He is also CEO of his private equity firm Weather Investments, which is the majority owner of Orascom Telecom.

Orascom Telecom has been operating in Algeria since 2001 under the Djezzy brand. The subsidiary contributes up to 50 per cent of annual earnings, even more than revenues from Egypt.

Sawiris is a board member of the UK-based GSM Association, representing Orascom Telecom since 2003. He is also a board member of the International Advisory Committee to the New York Stock Exchange.

In 2006-07, he was appointed joint chair of the Italian-Egyptian Business Council. He holds a diploma in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in technical administration from the Swiss Institute of Technology.
