The 11-kilometre-long promenade will be home to shops and restaurants
Dubai-based developer Nakheel has awarded a AED150m ($41m) contract to the local Overseas AST for the construction of the 11-kilometre-long The Boardwalk project on the Palm Jumeirah.
The Boardwalk is protective sea wall along the Palm Jumeirahs crescent that doubles up as a walking, shopping and dining promenade. It also includes an East and West Pier that will stretch 100 metres out to sea.
Overseas ASTs contract involves building an elevated, six metre wide boardwalk above the rock revetment on the outer side of the Palm Jumeirah crescent (including associated modification works to the existing breakwater), and two plied deck piers including restaurant buildings.
In January, Nakheel appointed the UK-based Halcrow as the design consultant for the project.
