Consultant will provide owners engineer services for planned sewage treatment plant and related infrastructure
Dubai-based developer Nakheel has awarded the owners engineer (O/E) contract to the UAE office of Austrias ILF Consulting Engineers for a planned sewage treatment plant (STP) on its Deira Islands scheme.
ILF will provide design services, assist with the tendering evaluation and award of construction contracts and design review and construction supervision services of the planned STP and lifting station.
The STP, which will handle the sewer flow from the Deira Islands development, is planned to be developed in two phases. The first stage, covering the period 2017 to 2022, will facilitate a capacity of 20,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d), with the second stage, for years 2022 to 2042, to deal with an additional 17,000 cm/d.
Building work started on Deira Islands last year. In October, Nakheel awarded a AED1.17bn ($319m) deal to the local United Engineering Construction (UNEC) for the Night Souq and Boardwalk.
The souq will stretch almost 2 kilometres along Deira Islands waterfront, and feature 5,300 shops and nearly 100 quayside cafes and restaurants.
