The contract involves preparing the architectural concept for all the 44 long-span bridges that will connect the 26 islands that make up Palm Deira.
In 2008 the local/Belgian Bel Hasa Six Construct was awarded a AED300m ($81.7m) contract to build an access bridge connecting Palm Deira to mainland Dubai by the Roads & Transport Authority. The bridge will be 400m long with six lanes in each direction. US-based Parsons International is the consultant.
Royal Haskoning of The Netherlands was appointed by Nakheel in May to design a landmark bridge from Dubai Waterfront to Palm Jebel Ali (MEED 30:5:08).
