Drake & Scull subsidiary to build The Pointe on the man-made island

Dubai-based developer Nakheel has awarded an AED375m ($102m) contract to Gulf Technical Construction Company (GTCC) to build The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah.

Nakheel expects GTCC, a subsidiary of Drake & Scull, to mobilise before the end of February.

The Pointe, Nakheel’s AED800m, 136,000 square metre retail and entertainment complex, will be located at the tip of Palm Jumeirah, opposite Atlantis, and is scheduled for completion in 2016.

The project includes a mix of shopping, dining and entertainment facilities, along with a fountain display.

The Pointe is one of several new Nakheel developments under way at Palm Jumeirah. Others include Nakheel Mall and Hotel, The Boardwalk and Palm West Beach.

Nakheel plans to tender construction contracts totalling more than AED6bn ($1.6bn) during 2014, as it continues to move forward with new projects.

Nakheel’s plans include retail and hospitality projects that will support its existing and future portfolio of residential developments, as well as the Dubai Expo 2020, which is expected to attract more visitors to the emirate.
