Local contractor will build houses and retail centre
Dubai-based developer Nakheel has awarded a AED146m ($39.7m) contract to the local Metac General Contracting to build a retail centre and houses at its Jumeirah Islands development in Dubai.
Metac General Contracting will build 84 townhouses and eight retail blocks at the Jumeirah development, with construction scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2016.
In July, Nakheel awarded Metac a AED44m contract for the construction of a new, 10,000-square-metre retail and recreation centre at its Al-Furjan development in the Jebel Ali area of Dubai.
The centre will contain 24 shops, including a 3,000 sq m supermarket, plus 10 cafes and restaurants. It will also have a swimming pool, gym, sports court and parking for 360 cars.
The Al-Furjan community centre is one of four neighbourhood malls Nakheel is developing. Retail centres at Discovery Gardens and Jumeirah Park will open this year, while International Citys community centre is due to open in 2015.
