
UKs Serco to operate and maintain rail link for another five years
UKs Serco Group will operate and maintain the Palm Jumeirah monorail systems for another five years, following signing of a new contract with developer Nakheel.
The company signed the first five-year O&M contract with Nakheel in August 2010.
The value of the contract has not been dsiclosed.
Apart from the monorail, Serco also operates the Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram. The firm signed a $17.9m, 75-month contract with the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) in 2013 to operate and maintain the tram, which serves Dubai Marina, Media City and Al-Sufouh road and connects to the Dubai metro and Palm monorail.
The Palm monorail extends 5.3km from Gateway Towers (landside) to Atlantis Aquaventure located on the crescent of the Palm Jumeirah island. The monorail provides an important transport link to the Palm Jumeirah island and will also be linked to Nakheels new developments on the island, including Nakheel Mall and The Pointe.
