Biography: After several years at the Doha Securities Market (now the Qatar Exchange), Nasser Ahmed al-Shaibi became part of the steering committee responsible for overseeing the establishment of the QFMA in 2005. He became deputy CEO and acting CEO from January 2006 until May 2009, when he was appointed CEO.
In March, he was appointed to the board of the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority. Al-Shaibi began his career in accounting and auditing at Qatargas, where he worked from 1993 to 1998. He has also been part of several government steering committees, tackling money laundering, investment funds and various legal issues.
The QFMA is responsible for regulation of the securities market in Qatar and has been involved in formulating rules for Qatari firms to start listing bonds and sukuk on the QE, and allowing for them to be traded in the secondary market.
