Italian oil and gas contractor Saipem has shut down its servers in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait in the wake of a targeted cyber attack against them.
The cyber attack, which the firm reported on 10 December, originated in Chennai in India.
In a statement, the firm said it did not sustain any data loss from the attack due to its data back-up systems, which will be activated “once the threat is eliminated”.
The firm added they are “collecting all the elements useful for assessing the impact on our infrastructures and the actions to be taken to restore normal activities.”
MEED understands the firm’s servers in Aberdeen in Scotland had been partially attacked as well.
However, the firm’s servers in its main operating centres in Italy, France and the UK were not affected.
