Horizon Terminals overseeing construction of liquid petroleum terminal

The construction of a $142m bulk liquid petroleum terminal at Dubai’s Jebel Ali port is on target for completion by the end of 2013.

Horizon Terminals, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company, is overseeing the construction of the terminal with a capacity of 141,000 cubic metres.

The project includes a 60-kilometre jet fuel pipeline that will link the terminal directly to Dubai International airport and will include a branch-off connection to the new Al-Maktoum International airport.

The new terminal and pipeline will play a strategic role in supporting Dubai’s aviation sector as demand for jet fuel grows. Passenger numbers at the existing Dubai International airport continue to climb and Al-Maktoum International airport at Dubai World Central is set to open for passenger traffic from October.

Horizon Terminals secured $100m of Islamic financing last year to finance the jet fuel pipeline.
