Planned redevelopment work involves onshore and marine works

Jordan-based Arab Centre for Engineering Studies (Aces) has been awarded the contract to undertake a geotechnical investigation for the planned rehabilitation of the general cargo terminal (GCT) at the Port of Salalah in Oman’s southern Dhofar governorate.

The proposed port development involves onshore and marine works, including expanding the port facilities by the construction of additional berths and the upgrade of existing berths, the Omani subsidiary of the firm said in a statement.

The project scope includes:

  • drilling of 28 offshore boreholes to depths ranging from 5 to 44 metres below seabed level
  • drilling of 47 onshore boreholes to depths ranging from 8 to 70 metres
  • geophysical testing using P-S log and seismic refraction
  • extensive laboratory testing on collected samples and preparing an interpretative geotechnical report

Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications is the project owner and clients are consultancy firms Ramboll of Denmark and local Simon Engineering and Partners. The latter won the consultancy contract for the project in 2015.
