Package three covers building and civil works

Oman’s Transport & Communications Ministry is inviting companies to bid by 21 March for the construction contract for package three of Sohar International airport.

Package three of the airport scheme involves building and civil works.

The ministry awarded the local/Austrian Strabag consortium the contract for the second infrastructure package in June 2010 (MEED 22:6:10).

The second infrastructure package involves the construction of a 4,000-metre-long runway, a taxiway, terminal building and cargo aprons, in addition to the installation of navigation aids, fuel and firefighting systems.

Strabag also won the first package of the airport project, which it was awarded in May 2009. The OR37.5m contract includes site preparation works and the construction of access roads.

Egypt’s Hamza Associates is the design consultant for the project. On completion, Sohar airport will have a capacity of 500,000 passengers a year.
