Plant will treat hyper-saline water for steam-injection facility
Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) is seeking a developer to finance and build a water treatment facility under a design, build, own, operate and transfer (DBOOT) model.
The facility will treat hyper-saline water to boiler feed water specification for the Qarn Alam steam-injection project, which was the world’s first full-steam injection project based on thermally assisted gas.
The water treatment facility will preserve aquifer water for future use, with Muscat seeking to preserve fresh potable water. It will also reduce deep water disposal and will ensure a regular and reliable supply of steam for oil production.
PDO is planning to award the successful developer a 20-year contract, with a 5 year extension option, under a DBOOT model. PDO will guarantee to provide the developer with 25,000 square metres of produced water. The developer will be compensated based on its recovery of treated water.
The client has invited firms to collect tender documents by 21 September for the project.
