Consultants have been invited to submit proposals in November
The Oman Power & Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has invited advisers to assist with preparation for launching a solar-powered independent power project (IPP).
OPWP has invited consultants to submit proposals for the technical and economic advisory services roles on the planned IPP by 27 November.
The client has not released any further information on the scope or technology of the proposed scheme, but has previously stated its intention to proceed with a 200MW solar IPP as one of its first utility-scale renewable energy projects.
In March, MEED reported that Oman was planning to issue tenders for a 200MW solar project in 2016,
Qais bin Saud al-Zakwani, executive president of the Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER) Oman, had said 200MW of solar capacity would be developed over two large sites in the Adam and Manah areas of the Dakhiliyah governorate.
Al-Zakwani said the projects would use a combination of concentrated solar power (CSP) and photovoltaic (PV) technologies.
