The development of Duqm is Oman’s largest construction project

Oman’s Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (Sezad) has invited firms to bid by 17 September for the design and construction supervision package of a road and parking lot at Duqm’s Rock Garden District.

The project will comprise 13 kilometres of road and 34,000 square kilometres of parking lots.

The development of Duqm is Oman’s largest construction project. The $20bn scheme involves developing the town of Duqm and its surrounding infrastructure. This includes a port and airport, along with a free zone and industrial area, housing, offices, hotels, hospitals and shopping malls.

Last month, Oman sought to raise up to $1.2bn to finance infrastructure at the Duqm Special Economic Zone.

The UK’s Standard Chartered was hired as the global coordinator to raise funds that could be backed by the World Bank’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency.

MEED understands Oman may raise the financing through a loan or bond with a potential maturity of 15 to 20 years.
