Joint venture to build infrastructure in three years
A joint venture of Egypt’s Orascom Construction Industries and Hassan Allam Sons has won the £E2.15bn ($393m) contract to build infrastructure associated with the 6 October City water treatment plant.
The contract covers the intake system, booster station and pipelines for the plant. It also includes underground water tanks and ancillary buildings.
The client is the Construction Authority for Potable Water and Wastewater, and the government will finance the scheme. The contractors will begin construction before the end of 2009 and are due to complete the work in three years.
The project will feed the 1.6-million-cubic-metre-a-day 6 October City wastewater treatment plant with raw water using the intake system and booster station, which will include 12 pumps. Each pump will have capacity of 1.5MW.
The pipeline will be 118.5 kilometres long and will run between El-Badrashain and Dahshour.
