Local contractor will build residential developments for UAE developer

The local Orascom Construction Industries has won a EGP800m ($137m) contract from UAE-based Emaar Properties for construction packages on its Mivida and Marassi projects in Egypt.

Orascom will build villas, townhouses and estate villas at Emaar’s Mivida project, which is located in New Cairo. The contractor will also build villas at the Marassi development on the north coast of Egypt.

The work is expected to take 22 months to complete.

Orascom is also one of six prequalifiers for the tender for the $400m renovation of terminal two at Cairo International airport. Orascom is part of a joint venture with the Belgian contractor Besix.

The renovation plan for terminal two involves upgrading the existing terminal so it can handle up to 7.5 million passengers a year, more than double its current capacity of 3.5 million passengers a year.

Construction is expected to take about three years to complete. The local Engineering Consultants Group and Netherlands-based Naco carried out the design of terminal two (MEED 25:1:11).
