UK-based Siemens Plessey Systems and Athens-based Joannou & Paraskevaides (J&P Overseas) have been awarded a $247 million contract for the expansion of Lahore Airport. The two companies were issued letters of intent by the government's Civil Aviation Department in May, but had been holding negotiations with the client on the precise details of the contract (MEED 17:5:96).
The contract calls for the construction of a new passenger terminal building, a new apron, taxiway, car parks and associated works. The new terminal will be able to handle 6 million passengers a year and will allow for the separation of commercial and military operations at the airport. The work is for completion in three years.
The consultant on the project is the local National Engineering Consultants.
