The US'
Parsons Internationalhas been selected as project management consultant (PMC) on the proposed expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport. Parsons is the latest international firm to win work on the development, joining the US'
Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM)and the UK's
Halcrow. The first construction package, covering new aprons, has also been issued for bid among contractors. The project is being handled by a government-appointed steering committee (MEED 3:12:04). The other bidders for the PMC contract included
Turner Construction Internationaland
Bechtel, both of the US, and Australia's
Bovis Lend Lease.
About five international contractors have been invited to bid by 19 February for the aircraft stands contract, which is expected to be worth $20 million-30 million. Prequalifiers are understood to include Athens-based
Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC), South Africa's
Grinaker LTA, Cyprus-based
Joannou & Paraskevaides,
Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East), also of South Africa, and Belgium's
Six Construct. In addition to the construction of aprons, the contract includes taxiway modifications, air field lighting and drainage.
Halcrow is the design and construction supervision consultant for the new aprons. SOM is the masterplan consultant for the overall expansion.
