The Iraq government has awarded contracts worth a combined $960.8m on the development of the Rumaila oil field to UK-based Petrofac and China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation (CPECC).

Petrofac won a $535.8m deal to provide management services on the oil field development, while CPECC was awarded a $425m contract for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work on the project’s power station.

Iraq is aiming to more than double the capacity of the Rumaila oil field in southern Iraq to 2.85 million barrels a day (b/d) from the current 1.3 million b/d.

UK-based BP and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) are handling the development of the field.
