British group to install facility for Tatweer Petroeum to treat gas from Bahrain field
- Plant will process 500 million cubic feet a day
- Project is first of several new gas processing plants planned in Bahrain
UK-based Petrofac has been awarded a contract by Tatweer Petroleum to build a gas dehydration facility in Bahrain.
Petrofac says the 500 million cubic feet a day (cf/d) facility will process gas produced from the Bahrain field and will be the first in a series of planned gas capacity projects in Bahrain scheduled for the next three to five years.
The project is a significant part of Tatweer Petroleums commitment to secure the delivery of natural gas needed to meet the growing demands of the Kingdom of Bahrain, says Petrofac.
Tatweer Petroleum is a joint venture of the Bahrain government, Bahrain-based Nogaholding, US-based Occidental Petroleum and Abu Dhabis Mubadala Petroleum.
The group took over the Bahrain field operations in 2009 to increase oil and gas production though drilling new wells, debottlenecking facilities and testing enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology.
In 2014, Tatweer Petroleum deputy CEO Hisham Zubari said the capacity of Bahrains gas-gathering system was at 2.3 billion cf/d compared with 1.9 billion cf/d at the end of 2009.
