The local/Turkish joint venture of Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprisesand STFA Soil Grouphas been awarded the excavation, dewatering and piling contract for the construction of a twin tower hotel on Sheikh Zayed highway in Dubai. The four-month contract is valued at AED 18 million ($5 million). The project covers two plots with a total area of 20,000 square feet. The hotel will have a built-up area of 60,000 square metres and entails construction of a 513-room, 52-storey tower 200 metres in height with a width of just 18 metres. The adjacent mixed-use, high-rise building will have a built-up area of 56,000 square metres. Prequalification for the main contract was launched in May. The UK's Currie & Brownis acting as project manager. Emirates Aerated Concrete, an affiliate of Kuwait's Aerated Concrete Industries Company (ACICO), is the client (MEED 13:5:05).
