Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has issued the tender for the PP10 power plant, near Riyadh, inviting contractors to submit bids for the contract by the end of April.

The contract calls for the construction of the 2,000-MW plant, including the supply of gas-fired turbines. Unlike its last two major power projects the PP8 and Al-Qurayyah plants where the turbines were procured separately, SEC has reverted to its conventional engineering, procurement and construction contracting strategy.

Prospective bidders for the estimated $1,500-2,000 million contract include National Contracting Company, Arabian Bemco Contracting, Al-Toukhi Contracting and El-Seif Engineering Contracting Company, all local, Germany's Siemens, France's Alstom, the US' GE Energy and Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MEED 16:2:07).

The local/Pakistani joint venture of Saudi Consulting Services (SaudConsult) and National Engineering Services of Pakistan (Nespak) is the consultant on the scheme.
