Prequalifiers gear up for Rabigh IWSPP tender

Seven groups of local and international companies have been prequalified by Saudi Aramcoto bid for the captive independent water, steam and power project (IWSPP) to serve the $4,300 million integrated refinery and petrochemicals complex at Rabigh. Request for proposals (RFPs) for the 400-MW plant are now expected to be issued to developers in mid-December (MEED 5:11:04).

The seven prequalified groups are: the local Acwapower, with Itochu Corporation, Marubeni Corporationand JGC Corporation, all of Japan; the UK's International Power, with Saudi Oger; Korea Electric Power Company (Kepco), with the local Xenel Industries; Japan's Mitsui & Company, with the local National Power Company; Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation; Sumitomo Corporation, also of Japan; and Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco).

Saudi Aramcoand Japan's Sumitomo Chemical Companyare joint sponsors of the Rabigh project, which will see a high-olefins-yield fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) complex integrated with an ethane-based cracker, producing about 1.3 million tonnes a year (t/y) of ethylene, 900,000 t/y of propylene and 80,000 barrels a day of gasoline and other refined products. Sumitomo-Mitsui Banking Corporationis the financial adviser (MEED 15:10:04).
